Outdoor tag sale, Saturday, June 7th, 9-3 at 1771 House – our resource center behind Worthington Meeting House, 725 Worthington Ridge. If you have items to donate (please nothing huge in size or broken), you can drop off at the house – leave on the side porch, and give Donna Rudge (860-681-9922) or Janice Jacobs (860-301-9713) a call or text to tell them.
We are still looking for members to march in the Memorial Day Parade, Monday morning, May 26th. The route starts at St, Paul’s and ends at Veterans’ Park. Please let me know if you can join us. Some have already said they cannot physically participate, and we understand. You are welcome to bring your grandchildren, friends and family. We’ve had a special banner made for the event that we can use again in future parades.
Saturday, May 31st, 10 a.m. at Worthington Meeting House, Berlin Historical and Friends of Worthington Meeting House will host a celebration of the 250th anniversary of when the meeting house was first occupied. It was built in 1774, after arbitration by a non-partisan commission from Massachusetts headed by Col. Worthington determined where two new meeting houses would be built. The congregation divided the timbers and one house was built retaining the name Kensington, and the other was built where it still stands, named for Col. Worthington. Theater Guild of Berlin will portray the arbitrators in a reenactment. The event ties in with Berlin Congregational Church’s 250th event beginning at 11. Although originally the home of that congregation, meeting houses were where all community events and town meetings took place. After the reenactment, you will have a rare opportunity to see inside the building (an unfinished construction project to turn it into a community cultural center). We’ll also have 1771 House open, and you can see the restored Worthington School cupola up close. It’s an opportunity to learn more about the restoration project. More information will follow soon.
